Frequently Asked Questions
Encera is a patented, systemic nitrogen-fixing bacteria, Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus, that works from within the plant to metabolise atmospheric nitrogen to plant available nitrogen. Encera works within the roots AND the foliage of the plant to offer season-long nitrogen where and when the crop most needs it for yield. Please visit the Science Page to learn more.
Encera is applied in-furrow at seeding or in crop as a foliar application. The bacteria in Encera converts nitrogen from the air to a form the plant can use for growth. At seeding, Encera enters a germinating seed and in crop Encera enters via stomata openings and leaf tissue. Once Encera enters plant tissue it forms a symbiotic relationship within the plant and multiplies systemically throughout the tissues of the plant throughout the roots and leaves. Unique to Encera is its ability to move into plant cells and provide nitrogen exactly where and when it is needed the most for yield.
Encera is primarily used on crops including wheat, maize, potatoes, and rice, but we have yet to find a crop that Encera cannot successfully colonise and achieve N-fixation benefits. If you are interested in testing Encera on a new crop, please contact us.
You can use Encera two ways:
1) Apply Encera with your recommended fertiliser program (i.e. apply 100% of the N you planned) to boost your yield OR
2) Reduce your synthetic N fertiliser (e.g. reduce up to 25% of your N in corn or up to 50% of your N in rice) and maintain your normal yield.
Since Encera microbes are an endophytic (lives within plants) they do not survive in the soil or stubble from season to the next. Additionally, if Encera freezes, mortality occurs and becomes ineffective.
Encera is available in the UK and with registrations in progress across the EU, Middle East, Africa, and Asia. For more information please see our How to Buy.
We are inviting interest from leading distributors and retailers across the EU, Middle East, Africa, and Asia. For more information please see our Sell Encera page.
Encera can be applied in-furrow in tank-mix with leading starter fertilisers or as a foliar application with leading herbicide and fungicide tank-mixes. See Use Instructions for more information
Encera is compatible with leading herbicides and fungicides. See use instructions.
Upon receiving Encera, keep it away from extreme heat or cold. The product will perform best if stored at a cool room temperature (4°C - 8°C) until use.
Do not open the bottle of Encera before you intend to apply it, and use all of the product in the bottle on the day that the bottle is opened. After mixing Encera for application, do not allow it to sit in the tank overnight. All Encera should be applied on the same day it is mixed in the tank.
